Sometimes also called an independent consultant or a temporary worker<, a contractor supplies a service in exchange for payment. A contractor can be either fee-for-service or fee-by-period - in other words, he or she can be paid upon the completion of a project or after a period has elapsed. Often, contractors are sourced by staffing companies.
